Trekking in North Cyprus
Many hiking and trekking tours are made in Kyrenia City that lies at the skirts of Besparmak Mountains. North Cyprus has been described as a “corner of earth touched by heaven” where mass tourism is still not heard of. There is much of historic interest, breathtaking scenery and possibly the most hospitable hosts in the Mediterranean. Summer temperatures can rise to 28 with 12 hours of sun.
Walking in the famous mountain ranges of the North Cyprus is both an exciting and rewarding proposition. By getting away from populated areas, you can enjoy the wide-open spaces and natural attractions of a region to the full.
North Cyprus in springtime is an absolute delight, when many kinds of wild flowers can be seen in the mountains, valleys, alonghe coast roads, around the reservoirs and castles.
Over 31 different species of wild orchid have been identified in Northern Cyprus, among them, the endemic Cyprus Bee Orchid.
Some sites of note which you might wish to visit on your rest days: Guzelyurt to the west of the island. The St Mamas Church and archaeological museum followed by the mosaics at Soli and the Palace of Vouni.
Esentepe and a visit to the Monastery of Antiphonitis.
Ancient Salamis and Gazimagusa (Famagusta) followed by the Royal Tombs where the Cyprus Warbler can
often be seen. Crusader Castle of St. Hilarion and Bellapais Abbey. An abundant variety of Orchids can be seen in some of these locations.
